Chi Chapter Biennium Projects 2022 - 2024 Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County DVS was founded 36 years ago in 1976 as part of the Community Action Program of Lancaster County. DVS is the only agency in Lancaster county providing comprehensive services to female and male victims of domestic violence. They provide assistance to 1,700 adults and their dependent children each year. Our Chi chapter has supported DVS both financially and physically for the past five years and will continue to do so. Coming Soon: End of School Treat Bag for DVS children. Mission Statement of DVSLC: DVSLC provides advocacy, which recognizes that victims of domestic violence, primarily women, are empowered to achieve their goals in accordance with their individual choices and needs. DVSLC believes that the skills and experience of staff and volunteers, along with community support, are crucial to its mission. DVSLC’s resources and services strive to provide program participants, staff and volunteers maximum opportunities for personal growth. DVSLC works to achieve social justice by educating and mobilizing the community to create an environment that does not tolerate domestic violence.
Secret Sister Chi sisters are building each other up through our Secret Sister exchange that we are doing from February 14th - May 31st.
Chi Rose Sisters. The Projects Committee will be creating Chi Rose Sisters. What is a Rose sister you ask? We are looking to pair up active teachers and retired teachers that are interested in working together. Pairs/sisters (for those interested) will work together as partners. We are all aware of the demands of teaching, now more than ever, it seems. Rose sisters will decide between themselves the best way help can be provided to the active teacher. Are you someone that feels comfortable going into the classroom (clearances will be necessary)? Would you prefer to help by doing things at home that will free up time for the working teacher? The sky is the limit. It is up to the Rose sisters to decide their personal plan. Both Rose sisters will benefit. For the retired member, there is value to giving to the classroom and for the active teacher, time to decrease stress. Look for a Email Blast that will be going out to gather names. You can decide between you, the amount of time and how it will work best.
STEM Kits Update Chi, DKG came through with flying colors. Thrive to Five was overwhelmed with STEAM kits that we provided to them. We needed a cart to transport all the supplies into the building! Due to the time of year, not all kits were able to be distributed, but they are planned to go out for classes next year. Jen Martin from Thrive to Five shared, “The kits that were used were very much appreciated by the staff and they can't wait to use them again next year along with those they did not get to this year.” One teacher said, "The kits were enjoyed by the children as well as us as staff. It was nice having everything collected for us as an easy-to-implement activity. We can't wait to see what other kits there are." Thank you to all for your enthusiasm for this project. Together we can share our love of teaching and learning in our community. If you have any connections or ideas for future projects please feel free to share.
